Develop strategic partnerships between insurance company and organizations serving low income communities. Facilitate knowledge sharing across regions and advise regional employees on best practices in microinsurance program development. Edit
Interesting work, gain experience in a rapidly growing new field within microfinance
Very little empowerment to implement ideas because of decentralized decision making and lack of buy in from management and regional staff. Little room for career growth within insurance, but might be a good stepping stone to other opportunities in microfinance more generally.
Very few jobs of this type exist at large insurance companies - 1-2 per company. Microfinance networks (e.g. Accion, WWB) sometimes have a product specialist responsible for developing insurance offerings. As of now there are very few career opportunities exclusively in microinsurance in the United States but this is not the case in India or a few other developing countries. Gaining developing country insurance experience, even if not in microinsurance would be a good start.
More than your resume, hiring managers want to see the thinking you'll contribute day one.
Learning about the types of jobs that exist shouldn't depend on who you know. You can change that.
